Gig at Newberg Music
I had a nice gig at Newberg Music last night with my friends William and Angeline from Castlerock. I met William at the Swannanoa Gathering Guitar Week several years ago back when i was still living in Florida. He lives in California. We saw each other about once a year and now that i live in Portland we get to hang out a little more often. I really enjoy playing tunes with him and his wife Angeline.
The gig was alot of fun. It was nice to play for an attentive and appreciative audience, as i am usually just background music at coffee shops. We switched off between group tunes with guitar, fiddle, and flute, William and Angeline playing duo tunes on flute and fiddle, some vocal pieces, and i played some solo guitar pieces as well. I liked the format, because we each got to play a fair number of pieces, and it varied the sound for the audience. It was one of the few gigs i have had where i have to sit and talk to the audience, and i felt a bit better about doing that. Being able to play a fair number of tunes let me settle into the situation and feel more comfortable.
For the solo guitar stuff i used an acoustic amp that the store owner GD had on hand. I was very pleased with the sound of the Mcintyre pickup, it sounds just like the guitar but louder.
Thanks to all who came out.
Anton
